The perpetrators of the Western Digital breach exploited a security vulnerability to steal sensitive data from the SAP system. This included information on orders, customers, deliveries, financial processes, and other business-critical aspects of the company’s operations. A hacker group calling itself “DarkZero” claims to have obtained extensive access to Western Digital’s systems, enabling a coordinated attack. As a result of the breach, in addition to SAP data, the attackers also gained access to management systems, network infrastructure, and backup servers. The threat also extends to research and development data, which could lead to the theft of the company’s intellectual property.
