Is your organisation truly using the full potential of automation? Or have you already deployed RPA robots that lack the “intelligence” to act independently and make decisions? This is exactly where Agentic Orchestration comes in - UiPath delivers an innovative approach that combines classic RPA with the power of artificial intelligence and autonomous agents. UiPath Maestro makes it straightforward to model processes, implement new ones, and monitor the interplay between classic bots and novel agents - including in real time.
What is Agentic Orchestration?
Let’s start with the basics. Agentic Orchestration is a way of managing the work of digital agents - advanced execution units that can not only carry out programmed tasks, but also analyse context, collaborate with other agents, and make decisions based on data and business rules.
In the UiPath environment, this means a new operating model: robots are no longer simple machines executing strictly defined rules - they become intelligent collaborators. They can initiate a process themselves, adapt it to changing conditions, and achieve the intended goal - much as a person would.
It’s a bit like an orchestra, where each musician (agent) knows their part but can also improvise when the situation calls for it - with the whole performance directed by an advanced orchestration system.
New technologies call for a new approach. Maestro provides a single integrated environment that brings together the work of classic bots and autonomous agents, involving a human in the process only where it is absolutely necessary.
What sets Agentic Orchestration apart?
Above all, decentralisation and autonomy. In the traditional approach, a single central orchestrator assigns tasks to robots. In the agentic model, each robot has more freedom - it can make local decisions, communicate and negotiate with others, and flexibly change its own strategy.
This reflects an important trend emerging this year: agent-to-agent coordination (known as A2A). The boundaries of agent activity are extending beyond the organisation in which they work.
This approach assumes cooperation with independent digital workers outside a company’s own ecosystem. Maestro already supports communication with CrewAI models, with support for ServiceNow, Salesforce Agentforce and LangChain announced for the near future - each of these already in production at organisations including Google, DHL, Bytedance and Deloitte.
UiPath integrates this approach with AI technologies from its Discover suite, such as Process Mining, Task Mining and Communication Mining, so that agents can understand context, analyse data, and interact with users in natural language. They have access to the same tools you already use to document processes, extract key information and trends from communications, or pull text from unstructured documents.
In practice, this means you can build an entire ecosystem of digital agents that “understand” your company: they know when to issue an invoice, how to respond to a customer query, and even when to escalate a case to a person.
A real-world example: order processing
Picture the order-processing workflow at a manufacturing company. With traditional RPA, robots might pull data from an email, enter it into SAP, and generate a document. But what if the order is incomplete? Or if the customer calls asking about its status?
With Agentic Orchestration, the machine doesn’t just execute the task - it can:
• identify missing information,
• send an automatic query to the customer,
• process the response (even if it arrives in unstructured form),
• update the ERP system,
• and, if needed, escalate the case to an employee.
Crucially, all of this happens without having to write thousands of rules and exceptions. Agents learn from data and adapt to changing conditions.
Existing automated processes can also benefit from having agents added to them. Any decision point that cannot be captured by rigid business rules, and that requires drawing conclusions from information, can be handed to an agent that carries out the work in a person’s place.
Striking the right balance between tight control and agent autonomy is a key consideration. Maestro lets you maximise the benefits of independent work by digital assistants while retaining full control over what necessarily involves a human in the process. In a manufacturing company, for example, that moment for asking an employee for support might be an order above a certain value.
Why should you care?
If your company is pursuing genuine digital transformation, Agentic Orchestration is a game-changer. Why?
• Scalability: you can deploy new agents without having to rebuild your entire infrastructure.
• Adaptability: agents adjust to changes in process, regulation, or customer preferences. You can also add them to existing automation of any kind without difficulty.
• Efficiency: more automation and less reliance on people where it isn’t essential. You’ll reduce human involvement in repetitive tasks and limit it in new areas too.
• Business intelligence: every agent can gather data that you can later analyse in your BI tools.
Is it time yet?
Agentic Orchestration is a direction - and an innovation. If today you’re only automating fragments of processes and want to take the next step - towards integrated, intelligent, end-to-end autonomous automation - it’s worth starting to test UiPath’s capabilities in this area now.
UiPath already offers the relevant tools within its platform. It’s worth exploring them, for example through pilots, proofs of concept, or workshops with a technology partner who knows the subject inside out.
