Gartner's **Magic Quadrant for Agentic Software Quality Assurance Platforms**, published on 6 October 2026, evaluates twelve vendors and places four in the Leaders quadrant: **Keysight, TestMu AI, Tricentis and UiPath**. Anyone running **SAP** should read the inclusion criteria before the chart. Gartner leaves out platforms whose main purpose is testing packaged business applications, and it names SAP explicitly. The report therefore has a good deal to say about testing software you build yourself, and nothing at all about testing SAP.

**At a glance:**

**1/** The category has a new name. Last year it was AI-Augmented Software Testing Tools; Gartner now expects agents that plan, generate, run and maintain tests,

**2/** the Leaders are Keysight, TestMu AI, Tricentis and UiPath, and UiPath says it was placed highest for Ability to Execute,

**3/** testing of extensions, configurations and customisations of packaged applications - Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, SAP and ServiceNow - is out of scope,

**4/** a platform for SAP testing has to be judged on other evidence: the method behind the project and a pilot on your own system.

## Agentic Software Quality Assurance Platforms: Gartner renames the category

The 2025 edition was called the Magic Quadrant for AI-Augmented Software Testing Tools. Gartner says the rename reflects the market's move towards agentic testing and quality orchestration, and the distinction matters. An AI-augmented tool makes a tester faster. An agentic platform takes on part of the job itself: it turns requirements and specifications into a test plan, orchestrates execution, analyses the outcome and passes results back to people or to other agents, coding agents included.

Gartner's reasoning is about throughput. Coding agents now produce software faster than teams can validate it, and testing that sits at the end of the cycle as a release gate cannot keep up. In the 2026 Gartner AI in Software Engineering Survey, **79%** of engineering functions said they were implementing, or had already built, agentic or AI-driven workflows. The survey covered 300 organisations with revenue of at least USD 250 million, and Gartner is careful to say the result reflects that sample rather than the market as a whole.

## What Gartner expects from an agentic QA platform

The mandatory capabilities read like a ready-made checklist for a tender, whichever vendor you have in mind. A platform must:

- run automated UI, API and visual tests across web, desktop, mobile and embedded applications,
- manage tests and prioritise execution on AI-driven criteria such as test flakiness and change impact,
- accept natural-language prompts and specifications from which agents plan and execute multistep testing tasks,
- integrate with coding agents through the Model Context Protocol, a command line or agent-to-agent interaction,
- ship native connectors for DevSecOps platforms, planning tools and version control,
- provide enterprise administration with role-based access and controls that contain what an agent is allowed to do.

Only vendors selling a generally available product with a public price list, and without mandatory professional services, qualified. Among the optional capabilities Gartner lists testing of generative AI applications with probabilistic behaviour, service virtualisation with synthetic test data, and the ability to leave a platform with your tests in open formats.

## The Leaders and UiPath's position

Of the twelve vendors evaluated, Keysight, TestMu AI, Tricentis and UiPath are Leaders. UiPath's offering in this market is **UiPath Test Cloud**, the platform we use in our testing projects. UiPath states that it was positioned highest on the Ability to Execute axis, which weighs product, vendor viability, market responsiveness and customer experience among other criteria. In the previous edition, under the old category name, UiPath was also a Leader, as it announced on 9 October 2025.

UiPath makes the full report, including the assessment of individual vendors, available on its website; the link is in the sources below.

## Gartner's view of the testing market: agents, MCP and consumption pricing

Gartner identifies four trends, and each one changes how a platform selection should be run.

**Unified quality workspaces with specialised agents.** Vendors are shipping agents that read requirements, generate tests, maintain automation, create test data and flag coverage gaps, or they let customers plug in agents of their own.

**Agent interoperability, MCP included.** Quality checks are increasingly called directly by coding agents inside the developer's workflow. A stand-alone testing platform that someone opens after the build is giving way to quality orchestration across the whole lifecycle.

**Competition from open source and AI-native tooling.** Playwright keeps gaining ground, and development tools now generate and run unit, API and UI tests on their own. Platform vendors respond with what those tools lack: governance, observability and end-to-end orchestration.

**Consumption-based pricing.** Charges for tokens and agent activity are appearing alongside subscriptions. The flexibility is real, but so is the need for budgeting and cost governance that a per-seat licence never required.

Gartner's recommendations belong in any rollout plan. Agentic platforms do not remove the need for human judgement: quality standards, oversight, evaluation of results and the release decision stay with people. Gartner advises against standardising on a single tool, since specialised tools may suit legacy technologies, unusual systems and regulated work better. And the quality engineer's role is shifting towards orchestrating and validating what agents do.

## SAP testing outside the Magic Quadrant's scope

The exclusion criteria rule out vendors whose platform is used primarily to test low-code applications, packaged business applications or SaaS. Gartner spells out that this means testing extensions, configurations or customisations of applications such as **Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, SAP and ServiceNow**, because the needs of that market and the capabilities it expects differ from the definition used in the report. The mandatory capabilities point the same way, since they refer to testing internally developed applications, and so does the vertical strategy criterion, where Gartner notes that testing packaged solutions is not the focus of this research.

For an organisation running SAP S/4HANA, that settles how the ranking should be read. The Magic Quadrant does not show that a Leader tests SAP well. Nor does it suggest the opposite. It did not measure SAP testing at all. SAP testing has its own shape: transports as the unit of change, SAP GUI alongside SAP Fiori, BAPI, RFC and IDoc interfaces, roles and authorisations, and, during an S/4HANA conversion, a regression suite written for a data model that is about to disappear.

Choosing a platform for SAP testing therefore calls for different evidence from an analyst report: SAP-specific capabilities, the method the project follows, and a pilot on a single process in your own landscape.

## How we test SAP with UiPath Test Cloud

UiPath Test Cloud includes SAP-specific capabilities that this Magic Quadrant did not assess. **Heatmap** shows which transactions are actually used in production and which of them are covered by tests. **Change Impact Analysis** takes selected transports and identifies the transactions, interfaces and authorisations they touch, together with the gaps in coverage. Tests run against SAP GUI, WebGUI and SAP Fiori, and Test Manager exchanges test cases and results with SAP Cloud ALM. We covered the details, limitations included, in our post on [testing SAP S/4HANA during conversion and before go-live](https://snok.ai/en/news/blog/sap-s4hana-testing-conversion-performance-uipath-test-cloud/).

Our SAP testing projects follow the same principles every time.

**Method before tooling.** We work to ISTQB principles and within the SAP Activate phases. The test strategy comes first, with entry and exit criteria expressed as numbers, a requirements coverage matrix and test cases; automation follows.

**Two connections, two questions.** Heatmap connects to the production system and Change Impact Analysis to the quality assurance system, as the vendor recommends. The first tells you what is used; the second tells you what you are changing before the change reaches production.

**Clear limits on autonomy.** Tests run in a test environment on masked data. An agent may repair a test broken by a screen change, but a person makes the release decision, based on a readiness report backed by evidence. That is the model we described in our post on the [dark testing factory for SAP, Oracle and IFS regression](https://snok.ai/en/news/blog/erp-regression-testing-sap-oracle-dark-testing-factory-uipath/).

**A pilot on one process.** We start with a single process, such as month-end close or procure-to-pay, and finish with a readiness report listing what is still missing. After the pilot you know how the platform behaves in your landscape rather than in an analyst's chart.

SNOK is a UiPath Platinum Partner, and SAP Basis, SAP security and automation sit in one team - see [our UiPath partnership](https://snok.ai/en/uipath-snok/). Testing in migration projects is part of our [SAP S/4HANA conversion](https://snok.ai/en/offer/sap-security/s4hana-conversion/) service; everything else runs under [agentic testing](https://snok.ai/en/offer/ai-automation/agentic-testing/).
